Kimmel and Schils Advance To Semi-Final Round of B Flight at New England Women's Tennis Tournament

AMHERST - Sophomore Rebecca Kimmel (Longmeadow, MA) and senior Nathalie Schils (Shaker Heights, OH) reached the semi-finals of the Chris Davis B Flight to highlight the Tufts University women's tennis team's participation at the 2011 New England Women's Intercollegiate Tennis Tournament (NEWITT) over the weekend.
The format of the tournament pairs teams of two players against each other in three matches - two singles and one doubles. The team to take the best out of the three wins.
Kimmel and Schils, Tufts' third team in the tournament, had wins over Babson's fourth team (2-1), Wheaton's third team (3-0) and Trinity's third team (2-1) before falling to Williams' fourth team 3-0 in the semi-finals.
Tufts #1 team of junior captain Lindsay Katz (Baltimore, MD) with sophomore Shelci Bowman (Dallas, TX) reached the quarterfinals. They defeated Middlebury's third team 2-1 and MIT's second team 2-1 in the round of 16, but lost to Amherst's #1 team in the quarter-finals 3-0.
Junior Lauren Hollender (Newton, MA) and sophomore Samantha Gann (Massapequa, NY) made up Tufts' second team. They defeated Amherst's third pair 3-0 in the round of 32, but were then eliminated by Williams' third team in the next round 2-1.
The NEWITT concludes the Jumbos' fall season. They will resume play in the spring.
