Chong of Women's Swimming and Diving Competes at NCAA Regional

Chong competed at her first NCCA Diving Regionals Friday.

MEDFORD, Mass. - Freshman Amber Chong of the Tufts University women's swimming and diving team competed at the NCAA Region 3 Meet Friday at Middlebury College. The meet is held for divers to attempt to qualify for the National Championship.

There are two events, the one-meter and the three-meeter dive, and in order to qualify, divers must place within the top nine participants in either event. A top nine finish in the one-meter qualifies you for nationals in both events, as does a top nine result in the three-meter. Tonight, the women participated in the three-meter compeition and were judged on an 11 dive routine.

Chong finished with a score of 322.10, which put her in 22nd place. The top three spots in the competition belonged to Deborah Wen (458.25) from MIT, Lindsay Ruderman (457.50) from Amherst College, and Carmen White (452.45) from New York University. The final qualifier was Jessican Kugleman in ninth place with a score of 412.45 from Renesselaer Polytchnic Institute.

Chong will have another chance to qualify for Nationals tomorrow when it is the women's turn in the one-meter dive.
