PRINCETON, N.J. - The Tufts University women's squash team advanced to the semi-final round of the Walker Cup at the 2017 College Squash Association (CSA) Team Championships on Friday morning by defeating Dickinson College 6-3.

Head coach Joe McManus' Jumbos will now play Franklin & Marshall College on Saturday at 9 am with a berth into the Walker Cup finals on the line. The Diplomates were 8-1 winners over Wesleyan University in Friday's opening round.
Tufts, ranked #21 in the nation entering the tournament and the fifth seed in the Walker Cup, pulled off a minor upset with their win today. Dickinson entered as the #20-ranked squad nationally and fourth seed in the Walker Cup draw. The Jumbos were without their usual #4 Sahana Karthik, so they played the fourth through ninth matches with everyone up a spot in the order.
The match was as close as the rankings would suggest, with eight of the nine contests going at least four games including three that went five.
Tufts' Catherine Shanahan, Olivia Luthringshauser-Ladd and Sahar Tirmizi all won five-game matches. Shanahan was down 2-1 before coming back for a 14-12, 5-11, 11-13, 11-9, 11-4 win at #3. Luthringshauser-Ladd did the same thing in the fifth match, rallying for an 11-9, 4-11, 5-11, 11-7, 11-9 win. Tirmizi led 2-0 in her #6 match, but had to pull it out in the fifth with 11-7, 11-7, 11-13, 7-11, 11-6 game scores.
In the fourth match, junior Jumbo Lauren Banner was down a game before coming back for an 8-11, 11-8, 11-9, 11-0 victory. Tufts sophomore Chista Irani also overcame a 1-0 deficit for a 9-11, 11-9, 11-7, 11-5 win in the seventh match. Freshman Claire Davidson won at the top of the order for Tufts 11-5, 13-11, 8-11, 11-5.
Dickinson College's victories came in the second, eighth and ninth matches. Domenica Romo defeated Tufts' Hannah Burns at #2 11-6, 11-7, 10-12, 11-6. The Red Devils' Merritt Davis fell behind Jumbo Sinclair Meggitt before winning 12-14, 12-10, 11-9, 11-9. Patricia Francis-Hall had the lone three-game win of the match for Dickinson in the ninth spot 11-9, 11-4, 11-9.
Tufts, which improved to 16-6 with today's win, will face the top seed of the Walker Cup next in the semi-finals against Frankln and Marshall. The Diplomats are ranked #17 nationally.
The Red Devils (8-11) will play a consolation match versus Wesleyan on Saturday at 9 am.
