MEDFORD - Senior co-captain Lauren O'Connor (Dudley, MA) and junior Alyssa Von Puttkammer (Park City, UT) of the Tufts women's soccer team were deemed among the best players in New England with their selection to the National Soccer Coaches Association (NSCAA) All-New England Teams on Friday.
O'Connor, placed on the All-New England Second Team, was a constant and steady performer for Coach Martha Whiting's team as the holding center-midfielder. Always on the field, she was a ball-winner for the Jumbos and contributed three goals to the offense. She scored the game-winning goal in an early-season conference victory over Wesleyan, then four days later converted a penalty-kick to help get a tie at Wheaton.
An All-New England Third Team pick, Von Puttkammer scored a goal with three assists in the first three games of the 2011 season to help the Jumbos get off to a good start. She ended up sixth in the league with six assists, with three others coming in league wins against Trinity, Connecticut College and Bowdoin. Finishing with two goals, she tied for the team lead with 10 points.
The Jumbos were ranked eighth in the final NSCAA New England poll. They finished 7-4-4 overall, including 5-3-2 for fourth place in NESCAC.
