Eighth Place Finish For Jumbos At Atlantic Coast Championship Finishes Fall Season

NEW YORK CITY - Sailing on the East River for the Atlantic Coast Championship on Saturday and Sunday, the Tufts women's team took eighth place out 18 with a 262 score. The Jumbos edged Vermont by one point.

In A Division, Tufts tallied a 125 score to place seventh ahead of Connecticut College at 126. Junior Natalie Salk (Providence, RI) skippered all 14 races with junior Amelia Quinn (Amherst, MA) in as crew for the first race and the fifth through 14th races. Sophomore Polly Murray (Cohasset, MA) stepped in for the second through fourth races. The Jumbos had two top-five finishes, a fifth in the sixth race and a fourth in the 12th race.

In B Division, junior Mariel Marchand (Barnstable, MA) skippered all 14 races with three different crews. Sophomore Sara Makaretz (Yarmouth, ME) worked the first through eighth races, sophomore Elizabeth Keys (Cincinnati, OH) was on board for the ninth through 12th races, and Murray finished up in the 13th and 14th. She and Marchand won the 13th race.

Yale won a tie-breaker over the University of Rhode Island to win the Atlantic Coast title. Both teams had finished at 181, but Yale was better in head-to-head.
