WOMEN'S SAILING NARROWLY MISSES NATIONAL BERTH WITH EIGHTH PLACE AT NEW ENGLAND'S

HARPSWELL, ME - Competing at the New England Championship over the weekend, the Tufts University women's sailing team finished four points shy of earning a berth into the Intercollegiate Sailing Association's National Championship. The top seven teams at New England's qualified and Tufts finished eighth.

With eight races in two divisions, seventh-place Coast Guard finished with a score of 107 while Tufts came in at 111. Boston College won the regional title with a 70 score.

The Jumbos finished third in the B Division races with a score of 45. The pair of senior skipper Catherine Swanson (Charleston, SC) with senior crew Margaret Rew (Princeton, NJ) had runner-up finishes in the fifth, sixth and seventh races.

Tufts was ninth in A Division with finishes totaling up to 66. Sophomore Natalie Salk (Providence, RI) worked with first year crew Polly Murray (Cohasset, MA) for the first through sixth races, and with senior Sara Carnahan (Crosslake, MN) for the seventh and eight races.

The New England Championship concluded the spring season for the Tufts women's team.
