FIVE JUMBOS IN WOMEN'S LACROSSE ARE NAMED TO IWLCA'S PILGRIM REGION TEAMS

MEDFORD - The Tufts women's lacrosse team placed five players on the 2011 Intercollegiate Women's Lacrosse Coaches Association (IWLCA) Pilgrim Region Teams.

Junior midfielder Casey Egan (Massapequa, NY), junior attack Lara Kozin (Suffern, NY) and junior midfielder Stephanie Perez (East Providence, RI) are on the 16-member First Team, as the Jumbos were one of four teams in the region to have three First Teamers.

Sophomore middie Kerry Eaton (Norfolk, MA) and junior defender Emily Pillemer (Arlington, MA) made the Second Team. Overall, Coach Carol Rappoli's team had the second-most players on the two teams overall with five.

Perez received her second straight IWLCA All-Region First Team honor. Egan was also recognized last season as a Second Team pick.

Kozin and Egan led a Tufts offense that featured five players with 30 goals or more. Kozin finished with a school-record 88 points on 39 goals and 49 assists. Her 49 assists, also a school record, are second-most in New England. Egan was next with 39 goals and 25 assists for 64 points. Eaton emerged as a sophomonre with 37 goals and 10 assists for 47 points.

Perez is one of the best two-way players in the region with 32 goals and seven assists for 39 points to go with 71 draw controls and 39 ground balls. Pillemer led the Jumbo defense, grabbing 40 ground balls and tying Perez for the team-lead in caused turnovers with 30.

Tufts earned its second NCAA Tournament berth this spring and defeated Endicott in the first round 17-6 before losing 13-6 at Cortland in the second round. The Jumbos, a NESCAC semi-finalist, finished at 12-7.
