CAMBRIDGE - The Tufts University women's rowing team made the most of a great day for racing at the 53rd annual Head of the Charles Regatta on Sunday. It was warm with a light tail wind blowing down the course as the Jumbos had two women's crews competing.
Tufts' first race was a women's quad. This race is a Director's Challenge, which means that there are not automatic entries based on time from previous years like non-Director's events. The Jumbo boat was made up of senior Arielle Mann, junior Erika Madrian, sophomore Julia Turner, and junior Erika Odmark. They had an excellent race, finishing with a raw time of 18:40.211. That time put them in the top 10 of their field, but a time handicap was applied due the range of ages from other boats. This put the Jumbos in 14th place out of 34.
The Jumbos' Collegiate 8+ started with bow number 7 and was made up of sophomore Jill Armenia, senior Emma Conroy, freshman Eva Elder, freshman Polly Harrington, sophomore Camden Myles, sophomore Prairie Hammer, sophomore Grace Fabrycky, freshman Erin Dwyer, and junior Libby Lichter. They placed 11th in the field of 26 entries with a time of 16:54.809. This earns them an automatic entry for next year's race.
