Women's Rowing Wins All Races Versus Amherst & Middlebury on Sunday

Tri-captain Hayley Cohen helped Tufts' second varsity eight to two wins

MALDEN - The Tufts University women's rowing team finished its opening weekend undefeated after winning five races versus Amherst College and Middlebury College on Sunday at Malden River.

Tufts, who was also 5-0 in races versus Trinity, Coast Guard and Simmons on Saturday, had a pair of wins by both the first varsity eight and the second varsity eight today against their NESCAC rivals. The Jumbo third varsity eight added a victory over Amherst.

The Jumbo 1V8 opened the day's racing with a narrow five-second victory over Amherst, crossing the finish line in 6:44.7 compared to the Mammoths' 6:49 flat. Later in the day, the Jumbo 1V8 defeated Middlebury convincingly with a 7:21.6 time to the Panthers' 7:40.5 finish.

The Jumbo first varsity eight boating was junior cox Annelise Ryan, junior stroke Emma Conroy, sophomore 7-seat Miranda Finestone, freshman 6 Prairie Hammer, freshman 5 Camden Myles, freshman 4 Grace Fabrycky, sophomore 3 Bibi Lichauco, junior 2 Sera Busse and senior bow Natalia Kastenberg.

The Tufts second varsity eight had similar results. They won by less than seven seconds versus Amherst (7:26.6 to 7:33.1) before a more comfortable 7:53.5 to 8:09.1 win over Middlebury later in the day.

The Jumbo 2V8 line-up was freshman cox Jill Armenia, sophomore stroke Erika Madrian, sophomore 7 Maia Tarnas, sophomore 6 Maddie Orzeske, sophomore 5 Libby Lichter, sophomore 4 Miriam Weiss, freshman 3 Laurel Haeger, freshman 2 Julia Turner and senior tri-captain and bow Hayley Cohen.

In between the varsity eight and second varsity eight action, Tufts' third varsity eight won by over 20 seconds against Amherst (7:59.7 - 8:21.4). Rowing for Tufts was  junior coxswain Caroline Talbert, freshman stroke Jiana Schnabel, sophomore 7 Leah Stern, freshman 6 Kathryn Luhrman, sophomore 5 Alina McIntyre, freshman 4 Ally Lee, freshman 3 Glynnis Cummings, freshman 2 Risa Williams and freshman bow Sidney Tanioka.

Tufts will be back on the Malden River next Saturday for races against Bates, Wesleyan and Wellesley.
