Men’s and women’s tennis will head to Bates Friday through Sunday for NESCAC Tournament action.

    Tufts University women’s crews returned to the water Sunday morning, one day after their duals with nationally-ranked Bates, Wellesley, and Wesleyan. The Jumbos faced their NESCAC counterpart Amherst. Under brilliant sunshine, but cold and windy conditions, the varsity and 2nd varsity eights from Medford swept the two-race card against the visitors from the middle of the Commonwealth.

    The biggest event for Tufts Athletics this week was on Monday night when women’s basketball took on Thomas More for the national championship. The Jumbos fell to the Saints 63-51 but had one of the most successful seasons in program history, making it to the title game for the first time. With the big Monday night over, Jumbo nation can focus on a busy week for spring sports teams.

    While the rest of the university was on spring break, our Jumbo teams were very busy last week playing full spring break schedules! This week has a ton of home openers on the schedule as softball opens at home on Wednesday, women’s tennis hosts Babson on Thursday, men’s and women’s track and field host the Snowflake Classic this Saturday and the men’s and women’s crew teams both have home races this Saturday on the Malden.

    The Jumbos are gearing up for one of the biggest weeks of the fall. Football will host undefeated Amherst on Saturday in a battle of two of the leagues best teams. Men’s soccer, women’s soccer and field hockey all have mid week contests that will could impact seeding for the NESCAC Tournament, which all three teams will begin playing in on Saturday. The men’s and women’s cross country teams both head to Wesleyan to race in their conference championship meet.
  • Tufts Women Negotiate Wind and Competition, Make Great Eight at Head of the Charles

    In the penultimate event of a day filled with classic head racing, the Tufts University Women's Crew negotiated the famed Head of the Charles course from well back in the pack late Sunday afternoon. The Jumbos traversed the Charles River from BU's DeWolfe Boathouse to the finish line in Brighton in a time of 18:11.05, 46 seconds off the winners from Williams College. Tufts finished eighth out of 22 NCAA Division III boats appearing in the 32-crew field.

    Another big week for the Jumbos teams including Parents Weekend on campus this coming weekend. Football will look to remain undefeated this year, hosting undefeated Trinity on Saturday. men’s soccer, women’s soccer and field hockey all have mid week contests before heading up to Bates for a NESCAC tilt on Saturday. Volleyball has two NESCAC contests on the schedule for the weekend in Cousens Gym.

    The 2014-15 Year in Tufts Athletics was one of the most successful in Jumbo history. This Friday night, October 9, the Tufts Athletics Department will honor 11 students who were selected as the top achievers from that remarkable year at the 2015 Annual Awards Ceremony. The event, which kicks off a weekend full of Homecoming activities hosted by Jumbo Athletics, will be held at Cohen Auditorium.

    After weeks of fall competition in the books, Homecoming weekend is finally on the horizon here in Medford. This weekend football will play at home for the first time this season, hosting Bowdoin, while men’s and women’s soccer, field hockey and volleyball will all play at home on Saturday. Men’s and women’s cross country will be racing at Franklin Park in the All-New England Championships. Men’s tennis heads up to Bates for the Wallach Invitational. Men’s and women’s crew will both be in action this weekend, and the coed sailing team will head to Salve Regina for the New England Sloop Championships.
  • Crew Teams to Host US Paralympic / Gateway to Gold Event at Tisch Center Sunday

    Adaptive Sports New England, in conjunction with U.S. Paralympics, a division of the United States Olympic Committee, is hosting a Gateway to Gold talent identification event on Sunday (Oct. 4) hosted by the Tufts University Crew programs. The event is designed to discover talented athletes with physical and visual impairments who could compete for Team USA at future Paralympic Games.
