WALTHAM - The #3 ranked Tufts Women's Basketball team shot 54.2 percent (26/48) in opening the 2015-16 season with a 69-52 vicotry at Brandeis University on Saturday.

Junior Katie Hicks scored a career-high 11 points

The game marked Tufts' first under the new NCAA rules this season, including four 10-minute quarters of play opposed to the 20-minute halves of the past. The loss was the first of the year for the Judges, who fall to 3-1 on the season.

It was raining threes early on. Brandeis hit two three-pointers to go up 6-0, but the Jumbos stormed back with five of their own, including three from sophomore guard Lauren Dillon for a 21-12 Jumbo lead at quarter's end.

The Judges narrowed the gap a bit in the second quarter as Tufts took a 31-24 into halftime.

The third quarter brought more back and forth play, with neither team going on more than a 4-0 run. The Jumbos led by 10, 47-37, heading into the final period.

The Judges cut the deficit to six on a three-pointer by senior guard Heather Cain with 7:54 remaining, but that was the closest they would get.

The story for the Jumbos was balance, as they had four double-digit scorers. Senior guard Emma Roberson led with 13 points, Dillon and junior Michela North tallied 12 each and junior forward Katy Hicks finished with 11. In addition, everyone who played contributed at least two points.

Junior guard Paris Hodges had a big game for the Judges, scoring a game-high 14 points with three assists and two steals. Cain also added 10 points.

Tufts will open its home season on Tuesday with a 5 pm start against Eastern Connecticut. The Judges play next on Tuesday, November 24 at Emmanuel College at 5 pm.
