Barnosky Earns Second All-Northeast Region Honor as Second Teamer

MEDFORD - One of the key components on back-to-back teams that won NCAA Tournament Sweet 16 berths, co-captain Kate Barnosky (Huntington Station, NY) of the Tufts women's basketball team has been named to the All-Northeast Region team for the second straight year.

A third team selection last year, Barnosky is on the second team this season after continuing to do a little bit of everything for head coach Carla Berube's Jumbos. In 28 games (27 starts), Barnosky averaged 9.0 points, 6.5 rebounds, and 2.8 assists per game. She was second on the Jumbos with 25 three-pointers and also hit at an excellent .789 (45/57) from the free throw line. With two NESCAC teams still playing in NCAA's, Barnosky is ranked sixth among conference rebounders.

Her scoring and rebounding numbers both went up during the NESCAC season to 9.5 points and 7.2 rebounds. She also netted 10 for 18 on three-pointers against league foes, a stellar .555 percentage. During the year, Barnosky scored a season-high 21 points at Emerson on December 4 and posted doubles against Salem State and Middlebury.

Tufts finished 25-3 in 2012-13, the second-most victories in team history. They won their first 22 games to blow away team records for best start and winning streak. After posting a 9-1 record in the league, they won a tie-breaker to earn the #1 seed in the conference tournament. The Jumbos were also selected as a host of the NCAA Regional round for the second straight year. Women's All-Northeast Region teams
