MEDFORD, Mass. – Raven Fournier of the Tufts University softball team has been named to the Schutt Sports/National Fast-pitch Coaches Association (NFCA) Division III National Player of the Year Watch List. She is one of the fifty players across all of DIII to be named and is one of three New England Small College Athletic Conference (NESCAC) athletes to appear on the list.
Fournier enters her senior season having been named NESCAC Player of the Week three times, to the All-New England Small College Athletic Conference (NESCAC) team three times, the NFCA All-New England team twice, and NESCAC Rookie of the Year as a freshman.
She has a career .396 batting average, 18 home runs, and 95 RBIs, all of which are among the top marks in program history. Last season, she led the team with a .440 average, which was good enough to lead NESCAC as well. She finished the season with 40 hits, four home runs, 25 RBIs, and 29 runs scored. The catcher and outfielder has a career .980 fielding percentage, making her one of the most sure-handed defenders on the team.
She went 3-for-4 with a double, two runs scored, and an RBI in the Jumbos' 6-3 win over Bowdoin last April. Fournier finished her junior campaign on an eight-game hitting streak where she went 13-for-23 with a home run and seven RBIs.
During her time as a Jumbo, the team has gone 103-26, including a 51-0 season her freshman year when the team won the National Championship. Fournier has also been to two NESCAC Championships, winning one.
Their season begins this year on March 17, when the team travels to Claremont, Fla.
