CLERMONT, Fla. – St. Catherine University junior pitcher Krista Flugstad went seven innings allowing just four hits and one run and freshman CF Amber Montero was 2 for 4 with three rbis as the Wildcats defeated Tufts Softball 6-1 on Monday morning in Florida.

St. Kate's improved to 9-2 with their third straight win, while Tufts dropped its second in a row to fall to 2-3.
The Wildcats put two on the board right away in the top of the first. Anna Hinderaker led off with a double and was sacrificed to third. She scored on a ground out by Montero. A Tufts error extended the inning and Flugstad helped her cause with an rbi fielder's choice.
St. Kate's added a pair in the third to lead 4-0. After loading the bases, Ashley Sis worked a walk for the first run and Gabby Nordman singled home the second.
Tufts cut the margin to 4-1 in the third. With one out, junior 2B Samantha Siciliano singled and stole second. After freshman CF Annika Han singled Siciliano to third, senior RF Maggie Hoffman's ground out to second brought home the lone Tufts run. Earlier in the day, Hoffman was announced as the NESCAC Player of the Week for the first time in her career.
Montero broke the game open with a two-run home run in the fourth. Claire Woebke, who had reached on an error, scored ahead of her.The Jumbos put two on with one out in the fourth, but couldn't score. Then in the fifth, a pair of Wildcat errors allowed two Tufts runners on, but Flugstand got three straight outs to kill the threat. The Jumbos went 1-2-3 in the sixth and seventh.
Kylie Macziewski added to the St. Kate's offense with a 2 for 3 effort and two runs scored. Brittney Frenette tripled with two outs in the fifth, but was stranded.
Freshman Allison Tilton took the pitching loss for Tufts.
