Three of the four Wildcat runs in the second were unearned. They loaded the bases against Tufts freshman starter Allison Tilton after Erin Kinney led off with a single and one-out walks were issued to Paige Smotherman and Danielle Duman. After a fly ball for two outs, a single by Jacinda Swiger and an error on the play scored all three runs. Swiger would then score on another Jumbo miscue.
Linfield threatened to add to the lead in the fourth after Duman led off with a single, was sacrificed to second and took third on a base hit by Alissa Buss. However, Hilton got a fly ball out to strand Duman at third.
Tufts then cut the lead in half in the bottom of the fourth. With one out, junior catcher Raven Fournier was hit by a pitch. She took third on a single to right by Casey Maggiore and scored on a two-out base hit by Maggie Hoffman making it 4-2. The Jumbos stranded Maggiore at third.
The Wildcats had a runner on third with two outs in the sixth. Darian Stedman singled, stole second and went to third on an error. Jumbo sophomore Christian Cain snagged a line drive by Buss to end the inning.
Tufts wasted a one-out double by Fournier in the bottom of the sixth and then went down 1-2-3 in the seventh.
Linfield's Shelby Saylors pitched the distance for the win. She allowed six hits and two runs with five K's and no walks.
In her collegiate debut against a national top 10 team, Hilton pitched well for Tufts. She went seven innings allowing five hits and just one earned run. Hoffman had two hits for Tufts, the only player with more than one in the game.
