TUFTS UNIVERSITY TO HOST 2011 NESCAC SOFTBALL CHAMPIONSHIP AT SPICER FIELD THIS WEEKEND
MEDFORD - Tufts University's Spicer Field will once again be the
host of the New England Small College Athletic Conference (NESCAC)
Softball Championship this weekend (May 6-8). The Tufts Jumbos will
welcome Middlebury College, Trinity College and Williams College
for a double-elimination tournament that will determine the
conference champion.
This is the fifth time that Tufts has hosted the NESCAC Softball Championship. The site rotates between the East and West Division champions. Spicer was also the host facilty in 2009, 2007, 2005 and 2001. The 2011 Jumbos won the program's seventh straight NESCAC East title.
Play begins on Friday (May 6) with a pair of games. Tufts (22-16) hosts NESCAC West Division #2 seed Williams (19-15-1) at 2:30 pm. West #1 seed Middlebury (25-5) plays East #2 Trinity (20-11) at 5 pm. Play continues with three games on Saturday (May 7). The final round is on Sunday (May 8) with a game at 10 am, and then an if-necessary game 30 minutes following the conclusion of the first game.
Tufts University Athletics and JumboCast, the student webcasting outfit of Tufts, are working to bring you the 2011 NESCAC Softball Championship online, but plans have not yet been finalized.
