CANTONE RECEIVES SECOND ALL-AMERICAN HONOR OF CAREER WITH THIRD TEAM NOD FROM NFCA

MEDFORD - Senior 1B Lena Cantone (Southington, CT) of the Tufts softball team was one of six players in New England named to the 2011 National Fastpitch Coaches Association (NFCA) All-American Teams announced on Thursday.

Cantone was presented with All-America recognition for the second team in her career. She was also a Third Team pick in her first year during the 2009 season. This marks the third straight season that the Jumbos have had at least one player on the All-American teams and it's the fourth time in the last five years.

The NESCAC Player of the Year, Cantone hit .435 with 14 doubles, 34 runs scored and 34 runs batted in. The only player in the league to receive All-American honors, Cantone also stole 12 bases and posted a .991 fielding percentage.

She had a four-hit game against versus Grinnell during the team's spring break trip, one of 21 multi-hit games she had this spring. She also drove home six runs against Fontbonne that week.
