The heart of the Tufts softball team's batting order has been honored by the National Fastpitch Coaches Association (NFCA) on its 2011 Division III All-New England Teams. Junior 1B Lena Cantone (Southington, CT) and first year catcher Jo Clair (Glastonbury, CT) are on the First Team, while sophomore 2B Emily Beinecke (Concord, MA) earned a Second Team nod.

Sweet-swinging junior 1B Lena Cantone (Southington, CT) of the Tufts softball team was among the leaders in most every offensive category for the 2011 season and today was announced as the New England Small College Athletic Conference (NESCAC) Player of the Year. Five Jumbos overall received All-Conference awards.

MIDDLEBURY WINS 2011 NESCAC SOFTBALL CHAMPIONSHIP WITH 7-4 VICTORY OVER TUFTS
The Middlebury College Panthers scored seven unanswered runs to take a 7-4 victory over the Tufts University Jumbos to win the 2011 NESCAC Softball Championship on Sunday afternoon at Spicer Field. The championship for Middlebury is its first in the 11-year history of the championship tournament.

The Middlebury College softball team advanced to the final round of the 2011 NESCAC Championship with a 2-0 victory over the Jumbos of Tufts University on Sunday morning at Spicer Field. The game had started on Saturday afternoon, but was suspended due to rain.

Senior 1B Lena Cantone (Southington, CT) stroked an opposite field rbi double with two outs in the bottom of the sixth inning, and sophomore pitcher Rebecca DiBiase (Wellesley, MA) finished off four no-hit innings of relief with a 1-2-3 seventh, as the Tufts softball team won 3-2 over Williams College in the first game of the 2011 NESCAC Championship on Friday afternoon at Spicer Field.

Senior RF Kim Miner (Concord, MA) connected on a two-out, walk-off single to give the Tufts University softball team a 1-0 victory over the visiting Mules of Colby College in NESCAC East play on Sunday afternoon at Spicer Field. With the triumph the Jumbos clinched the right to host the 2011 NESCAC Softball Championship next weekend.

The Tufts University softball team swept a non-conference twinbill over host Bridgewater State University on Wednesday afternoon in Bridgewater. The visiting Jumbos blanked the Bears in the first game, 5-0, and completed the sweep with an 8-1 darkness shortened victory in game two.

The Tufts University softball team scored 25 runs on 29 hits in 10 innings of play in two games on Friday at the NTC Spring Tournament. Tufts took wins over Allegheny, 15-1, and Grinnell, 10-2, in two games that were stopped after five innings due to the eight-run rule.

The Tufts softball team was snakebit in Florida on Sunday, losing twice in the eighth inning of games against New Paltz State and the University of Wisconsin-Whitewater. Tufts fell 4-3 to New Paltz and then dropped a 3-2 contest against Whitewater.

The Tufts University softball team dropped a pair of National Training Center (NTC) Spring Games played in Clermont, Florida to open their 2011 season on Saturday. The Jumbos fell 6-2 against Plymouth State and 10-2 to St. Thomas in six innings.
