Co-ed Sailing Begins Spring Season with 5th Place at Sharpe Trophy Team Race

CRANSTON, RI - The Tufts University co-ed sailing team started its 2018 spring schedule by competing at the Sharpe Trophy Team Race hosted by Brown University on Saturday and Sunday. The Jumbos were fifth out of eight teams at the event.

The Jumbos posted a 3-4 record in the opening round of sailing and were not one of the four teams to advance to the second round. The Tufts wins came against Connecticut College, Dartmouth and Rhode Island. Tufts' three finishes totaled to nine against each of those opponents, including taking the first and second spots versus Dartmouth and Rhode Island.

Tufts' four losses were against Brown, Coast Guard, Harvard and MIT. The closest race was against the host Bears, where Tufts recorded the second, fourth and fifth finishes.

MIT went on to win the regatta with an 8-2 overall record.

Sailing for the Jumbos were junior skipper Chris Keller with senior crew Michelle Chisdak, junior skipper Jackson McCoy with freshman crew Jacob Whitney and junior skipper Sammy Shea with freshman crew Juliana Testa.

Tufts will compete at Harvard's Wood Trophy Team Race next weekend (Mar. 10-11).
