MEDFORD – Recent Tufts University graduate Drew DiMaiti was named to the 2018 Google Cloud Academic All-District® Men's Track/Cross Country Team on Tuesday.
The honor recognizes the nation's top student-athletes for their combined performances on the track and in the classroom. First-team Academic All-District® honorees advance to the Google Cloud Academic All-America® ballot, with Academic All-America® teams announced in June.
The Academic All-District® teams are divided into eight geographic districts across the United States and Canada with honorees in four divisions — NCAA Division I, NCAA Division II, NCAA Division III and College Division. DiMaiti is on the District 1 team for Division III, which includes the honorees from the states of Massachusetts, Maine, New Hampshire and Vermont. He is one of just 10 team members including five from the New England Small College Athletic Conference (NESCAC).
A captain of head coach Joel Williams' Jumbo men's track & field teams for 2018, DiMaiti was a five-time NCAA qualifier over his career. He was an indoor All-American this past winter with the distance medley relay and won his third consecutive New England Division III 400-meter hurdles title outdoors. This spring marked the third straight year DiMaiti qualified for the NCAA Outdoor Championships in the 400h.
An International Relations and History major, DiMaiti is a Fulbright Scholarship Winner for 2018-19. He was also Tufts' 2018 Albert H. Imlah Excellence in History Prize award winner and received the Alex Elias Scholarship given to the individual who best displays high standards in community activities and in athletic and scholastic pursuits. An Academic All-NESCAC recipient three times, DiMaiti is also a Tufts International Relations Honor Society member.
