Men's Track DMR Earns Top 10 National Time at Boston University

BOSTON - In a race where five of the top 10 times in Division III were run on Friday night, the Tufts University men's indoor track & field team's distance medley relay posted a top 10 national time at the David Hemery Valentine Invitational hosted by Boston University.

The Jumbo foursome of sophomore Hiroto Watanabe, sophomore Thomas Doyle, junior Tom DePalma and sophomore Colin Raposo combined on a 10:08.55 time that was converted to a 10:16.83 due to the banked track at BU. That converted time currently ranks eighth for Division III.

The race was the first for a Jumbo DMR this season. They were seventh out of 14 teams in the race. Raposo is the only rturning member from last season's DMR which placed 12th at the NCAA Indoor Championships.

Head coach Joel Williams' Tufts team now has five top 10 national marks for the 2017 indoor season as of Friday night. In addition to his role with the DMR, Watanabe is rankaed fourth in the 800 at a 1:54.41 mark. Senior Tim Nichols has both the #1 time in the 5,000 (14:19.45) and the #3 run in the 3,000 (8:21.51). Senior Luke O'Connor's 8:24.21 in the 3,000 is #6 nationally.

Tomorrow, Tufts will have primarily field event competitors at the MIT Invitational, and sprinters and middle distance runners will be in action at the continuation of the BU event.
