MEN'S TENNIS RECEIVES FIFTH SEED IN 2011 NESCAC CHAMPIONSHIP AT MIDDLEBURY THIS WEEKEND

MEDFORD - For the first time since the New England Small College Athletic Conference (NESCAC) went to a six-team tournament format in 2006, the Tufts University men's tennis team qualified for the conference championship that will be held this weekend (May 6-8) at Middlebury College.

The Jumbos, seeded fifth, will take on #4 seed Bowdoin College (11-5) in the first round on Friday at 9 am. Williams College (10-3), the third seed, will play #6 seed Trinity College (9-7) in the other first-round match at 11 am Friday. Top seed Amherst (29-1) will play the Tufts/Bowdoin winner at 9 am on Saturday, while #2 seed and host Middlebury (16-2) plays either Williams or Trinity in the other semi-final at 11 am. The winners meet for the conference title at 9 am on Sunday.

Coach Jim Watson's Jumbo team finished the regular season with an 11-5 record, the most wins for the Tufts program since the 1995-96 season. They were 4-3 in NESCAC play, including a victory against Trinity.
