Freshman Ryan Rosen won at doubles and singles for the Jumbos

LOS ANGELES, CA – After dropping their first dual match of the spring season Wednesday morning, the Tufts men's tennis team responded in a strong way, topping Occidental later in the day, 8-1.  The Jumbos swept all three doubles matches and took five of six at singles to secure the win.

Sophomore Nik Telkedzhiev (Plovdiv, Bulgaira) and junior Brian Tan (Orinda, CA) took on Occidental's best pair at #1 doubles and came out on the winning side, 8-5.  At #2 doubles the winner was decided by a similar score as senior Matt Pataro (Miami, FL) and Nick Cary topped their Tiger opponents, 8-5.  Freshman Ryan Rosen (La Jolla, CA) and fellow classmate Benjamin Battle (Delray Beach, FL) played at #3 doubles and cruised to a 8-2 win in that spot.

Tan played at #2 singles for the Jumbos and was able to come back after dropping the first set to top Kevin Siebs, 5-7, 6-3, 10-1.  Sophomore Rob Jacobson (Winnetka, IL ) brought home a win at #3 singles, topping Avery Chernin, 3-1, 6-1.  Playing at #4 singles, rookie Brad Wong (Granite Bay, CA) defeated Eric Kazangian, 6-3, 6-4.

Pataro used the momentum from his doubles play to cruise to a victory at #5 singles, beating the Tiger's Avery Howard, 6-0, 6-2.  The last win for the Jumbos came at #6 singles from Rosen who came back to top Occidental's David Cotton, 5-7, 6-3, 10-1.

The lone loss for the Jumbos came at #1 singles as Telkedzhiev was topped by Occidental's ace, Josh Dancu.

The men now have a day off before returning to the courts on Friday to take on NESCAC rival Trinity at Pomona at 1:00 pm.  The match with Trinity will conclude their spring break trip.
