Jumbo Swimmer Drew Berman Earns NESCAC's First Performer of the Week Award for 2011-12

MEDFORD - Sophomore Drew Berman (Miami, FL) of the Tufts men's swimming & diving team has received the New England Small College Athletic Conference's (NESCAC) first Performer of the Week award for the 2011-12 season. He was a leading scorer when the Jumbos competed in back-to-back meets on Saturday and Sunday.

At Middlebury College for a tri-meet including Connecticut College on Saturday, Berman won the 200 breaststroke with a 2:15.94 time. He then came back and took first in the 200 individual medley with a 2:01.93 finish. Berman also finished fourth in the 100 breaststroke (1:02.25). Coach Adam Hoyt's team split the meet, defeating the host Panthers (166-128) and losing to the Camels (150-130).

After arriving home from Vermont with the rest of his teammates around midnight on Saturday, Berman and the Jumbos were back in the pool to open their home season against Keene State College on Sunday at 1 pm. Berman continued his winning ways with another double. He won the 200 butterfly in 2:03.56 and the 200 breaststroke in 2:17.03. He added a runner-up placement in the 200 individual medley with a 2:02.50 time. That helped the Jumbos defeat Keene 163-133.

This is the first NESCAC Performer of the Week honor for Berman. He was a good depth swimmer for the Jumbos last year and has now stepped up to be a team leader in some events. Last season, his teammates Andrew Turk (Westlake Village, CA) and Owen Rood (Brandford, CT) received the conference award.
