MEDFORD - The upstart Tufts men's soccer program has two players on the 2011 National Soccer Coaches Association of America (NSCAA) All-New England North Teams announced on Saturday. Freshman midfielder Gus Santos (Framingham, MA) is on the North First Team and junior defender Pat Bauer (Portland, OR) is on the Second Team.

By virtue of being the only freshman on either of the NSCAA All-New Enlgand North or South Teams, Santos was the top rookie in New England this fall. His speed and skill with the ball helped Tufts finish third in the New England Small College Athletic Conference with 27 goals in 2011 after placing ninth in scoring with 15 goals in 2010. Santos led Tufts with seven goals and six assists for 20 points.

Bauer, a junior tri-captain for the Jumbos this fall, had an exceptionally consistent season as a defender. An excellent one-on-one and team defender, he's also very competent on the ball and can be dangerous going forward.

Santos and Bauer represent Tufts' first NSCAA All-New Englanders since the 2008 season.

Coach Josh Shapiro's Jumbos were in the thick of the NESCAC race for most of the season. They finished 9-4-2 overall and were 5-3-2 in the league for fifth place. The Jumbos were the #9 ranked team in the final NSCAA New England poll.
