MEDFORD - Two members of Tufts University's sophomore class received United States Intercollegiate Lacrosse Association (USILA) / Nike Honorable Mention All-American accolades today as Danny Murphy and Ben Connelly were honored.
Finishing the 2017 season with 54 goals and 41 assists for 95 points in 17 games, Murphy was one of the most productive offensive players in Division III. His goals, assists and points per game marks are all ranked among the top 25 nationally. With 5.59 points per game, Murphy is ninth in Division III. His 3.18 goals per game and 2.41 assists per game were 20th and 23rd in the country, respectively.
In addition to posting strong overall numbers of 30 goals and 17 assists for 47 points this spring, Connelly was one of the top man-up scorers in the nation. His 11 man-up goals this season ranks 12th nationally. He potted a pair of extra-man goals in a regular-season win against Trinity College on March 25 and did the same in the conference semi-finals versus Wesleyan University.
This is the third post-season honor for both Murphy and Connelly this spring. Murphy was on the All-New England Small College Athletic Conference (NESCAC) and All-New England Intercollegiate Lacrosse Association (NEILA) first teams. Connelly was a second-team selection by both NESCAC and the NEILA. This is the first USILA All-American honor for both Jumbos.
Head coach Casey D'Annolfo's Jumbos finished 13-6 overall and 6-4 in the NESCAC. They advanced into the conference semi-finals and into the third round of the NCAA Tournament.
