MEDFORD - With the new year approaching, college lacrosse season is amping up and Inside Lacrosse has released its 2012 Face-Off Yearbook Division III Preseason All-Americans. Seniors Sean Kirwan (Boonton Township, NJ) and Kevin McCormick (Laytonsville, MD) from Tufts men's lacrosse are on the First Team.
Tufts' two First Team selections were fewer than only Salisbury, who have three Preseason All-Americans coming off a season in which they beat Tufts in the national championship game.
Kirwan and McCormick have been key contributors to Tufts teams that have made back-to-back DIII championship game appearances. Both were United State Intercollegiate Lacrosse Assocation Third Team All-Americans in 2011.
Kirwan's 66 goals last season were third most in the NCAA Div. III statistics, and he has scored 115 goals in the last two seasons. He enters the 2012 campaign 25 goals shy of tying Dan Kollar's Tufts record of 148 career goals from 1998-2001.
McCormick had 41 goals with 10 assists for 51 points from his midfield position last year. That backed up a 27-12-39 sophomore campaign in 2010.
The pair combined for seven goals in last season's 16-12 NCAA semi-final win at previously undefeated RIT. Kirwan and McCormick will be at the front as the Jumbos look to make another run to the title game this spring. The season opens March 10 at Hamilton.
