HESSLER SELECTED AS USILA'S MOST OUTSTANDING ATTACKMAN FOR 2011 MEN'S LACROSSE SEASON

MEDFORD - As announced recently by the United States Intercollegiate Lacrosse Association (USILA) and posted on the Inside Lacrosse website, senior D.J. Hessler (Monkton, MD) of the Tufts men's lacrosse team has been named the Lt. Col. J.L. (Jack) Turnbull Award recipient as the Outstanding Attackman in NCAA Div. III.

Hessler and the rest of his teammates are readying for their second straight appearance in the NCAA Div. III final against Salisbury on Sunday at M&T Bank Stadium in Baltimore. He leads the Jumbos with 90 points on 36 goals and 54 assists in 20 games. He's one point off of his school-record 91 points scored last season.

In the NCAA Div. III Statistics, Hessler's 2.7 assists per game rank fifth while his 4.5 points per game are 12th. In April, Hessler was the only Div. III player in the country selected as a finalist for the Tewaarton Award, college lacrosse's equivalent of the Heisman Trophy.

In three NCAA Tournament games thus far, Hessler leads Coach Mike Daly's Jumbos with 10 points on two goals and eight assists. He had two goals and three assists during the team's 16-12 victory at previoulsy unbeaten RIT in the NCAA semi-finals last Sunday.

The complete Division III position player awards from the USILA are listed here.
