Men's Crew Varsity Wins at Hadley Chase in Saturday Racing

HADLEY, MA - The Tufts University men's rowing team had a good day at the Hadley Chase on Saturday. The regatta is a new race which combines small boat and sculling races in the morning with traditional eights racing in the afternoon.  Coming a week before the Head of the Charles, the race provided a good test for where the team stands at this early point in the year.
The Jumbo men's first varsity eight finished first overall, four seconds ahead of UMass and 12 seconds ahead of Coast Guard.  The men's second varsity eight finished ninth overall in a time of 17:24.9.  The men's third varsity was just behind the second varsity in 10th, with a time of 17:39.8
Andrew MacMillen '18 won the men's collegiate single, in a time of 19:43.  Thomas Hendrickson was second, just ahead of a sculler from USCGA in a time of 20:29.4.   Other Tufts racers included (in order of finish):

With the Head of the Charles just a week away, these strong results are a positive indicator.

Also racing was a men's collegiate quadruple scull (4x) who were the only entry in their event.  They posted a strong time of 18:13.  The quad was comprised of Peter Malinovsky '20, Michael Thramann '20, Dean Ericksen '20, and Ross Hamilton '20.
