Honigford 2nd Individually After Golf's 1st Round at Lafrance Hospitality Invitational

NORTH DARTMOUTH – Sophomore Alex Honigford shot two-over par 74 to lead the Tufts University golf team on the first day of the Lafrance Hospitality Invitational hosted by the University of Massachusetts-Datmouth at Allendale Country Club Friday.

The Jumbos are tied for eighth as a team after one round with their four-best scoring totaling to 324 strokes. They are even with Johnson & Wales, both just three strokes behind fifth-place Husson (321). They are three strokes in front of 10th-place Farmingdale State (327).

Honigford is tied for second individually behind day-one leader Gavin Dugas from Husson, who shot one-over 73. Tufts freshman Sanjay Mukherjee also had a good opening around with a 77 to tie for eighth individually through Friday.

Freshman Adam Schwimmer was Tufts' third scorer with a round of 84. Senior Brian Creonte was the fourth Jumbo at 89. Freshman Louis Yoon is also with the team and shot 92 on Friday.

The host Corsairs have a nine-stroke lead in the team standings with a 307 score. Second-place Nichols is at 316.

Weather depending, round two will start at 1 pm on Saturday.
