Spectacular Sunday at Qualifier Gives Golf 2nd Straight Berth into NESCAC Championship

Freshman Mac Bredahl shot 72 on Sunday and tied for fourth overall

MIDDLETOWN, CONN. – The Tufts University golf team qualified for the 2019 NESCAC Championship after an epic day at the conference qualifier hosted by Wesleyan on Sunday at Lyman Orchards-Robert Trent Jones Course.

The top four teams at the Qualifier make the conference championship field. Tufts was five strokes out of fourth place after Saturday's 304 score. However, their four-best scores today totaled to a stellar 291 and they moved past Williams College to secure the fourth and final spot with a 595 total. The Ephs, who scored 299 yesterday and 297 today, finished one stroke behind at 596.

Middlebury College won the Qualifier with a 293-294-587 tournament total and will host the conference championship in the spring. Trinity College was second (291-297-588) and Hamilton College took third (292-300-592) to earn spots in the Championship.

The Jumbos' 291 score today matched Trinity's 291 yesterday as the best team score of the weekend. The total is three-over for the team. They achieved it with a pair of even-par 72's by sophomore Harry Theodore and freshman Mac Bredahl, a one-over 73 by senior co-captain Justin Feldman and a two-over 74 from sophomore Henry Hughes.

This is the second straight year that Tufts qualified for the conference championship. Last year marked the first time that Tufts had been one of the four teams to advance to the conference championship since the Qualifier was instituted in 2007. Prior to that, all of the league's golf teams played in the championship event. The Jumbos placed fourth in the conference tournament last April.

Individually today, Bredahl tied for fourth with his two-day 146. Theodore finished at 148 to tie for eighth. Hughes was right outside of the top 10 with a 149.

Trinity College's Will Rosenfield won the individual medalist honors with a five-under 139 for the weekend.

The Jumbos will play in the New England Intercollegiate Golf Association Championship on Cape Cod to finish the fall season October 21-22.
