Men's Golf Team Third at NESCAC Qualifier After Day 1 Action

Justin Feldman's 77 tied for the Tufts lead on Saturday

NEWINGTON, CT - The Tufts University men's golf team sits third after one round at the 2017 New England Small College Athletic Conference (NESCAC) Fall Qualifier held on Saturday at Indian Hill Country Club. The top four teams at the end of tomorrow's play will advance to the 2018 NESCAC Championship in the spring.

Tufts is attempting to qualify for the conference golf championship for the first time. The fall qualifier was started in 2007, with the top four teams moving on to compete for the NESCAC title. Tufts has been fifth four times in the Qualifier (2016, 2014, 2009, 2007). Prior to 2007, all conference teams played in the championship.

The Jumbos' four best scores on Saturday totaled 314 strokes. They have a seven-stroke lead on fourth-place Hamilton College (321), and an eight-stroke margin over fifth-place Amherst College (322). Host Trinity leads the Qualifer at 299 strokes, while Williams is in second at 304. The winner of the Qualifier will host the 2018 conference championship.

Junior Justin Feldman and sophomore Brandon Karr both shot 77's at the par-72 Indian Hill CC today leading Tufts. Senior co-captain Aaron Corn was one stroke back with a 78. Freshman Harry Theodore was the Jumbos' fourth scorer at 82. Senior co-captain Taylor Nordan also played for Tufts and came in at 85. Feldman and Karr are tied for eighth individually, while Corn is tied for 13th.

Williams College's Will Kannegieser leads the field with a first-round 72.
