Jumbo Football Coach Jay Civetti's Interim Tag Removed
MEDFORD - Tufts University Director of Athletics Bill Gehling
announced yesterday that the interim tag on head football coach Jay
Civetti has been lifted.
"Effective immediately, Jay Civetti is now the Head Football Coach at Tufts University for what I hope will be many, many years to come," Gehling said. "In the last ten months, Coach Civetti has shown that he has all of the qualities that we believe are most crucial to the development of a successful football program at Tufts. I look forward to working with him to build a program we can be proud of both on the field and off."
The offensive coordinator at Tufts for the previous three seasons, Civetti was named interim head coach of the Jumbo football team in January. During a rebuilding season this fall, the Jumbos have fought hard on the field and have bought into their role of setting the foundation for future success.
"While the team has faced a difficult road this fall, Coach Civetti has been a voice of consistency, building a culture of accountability and commitment among the players," Gehling said. "Removing any remaining doubt about the future head coaching status of our program is an important step to allow this progress to continue."
