VIRGINIA BEACH, VA. – Jacob Pilarski had seven runs batted in as the Virginia Wesleyan College (VWC) baseball team defeated Tufts University 25-13 on Sunday afternoon at Kenneth R. Perry Field.

The four-hour game featured 38 runs and 39 hits between the teams. The Marlins (13-7) finished with 27 hits, including four by Corey King. The Jumbos (5-4) were led by three hits, a home run, two runs scored and two rbis from senior RF Malcolm Nachmanoff.
Tufts had pulled within 4-2 in the top of the fourth when Nachmanoff hit a one-out double and scored on a single by junior SS Will Shackelford. However, the Marlins then scored five in the fourth, sixth in the fifth and seven in the sixth to open an insurmountable lead.
In addition to the contributions of Pilarski (3 for 5) and King (4 for 6), VWC lead-off hitter Brandon Kussmaul went 3 for 4 with four runs and two rbis. Randy Neisz finished 2 for 5 with three rbis and two runs. Brady Fallon (3 for 5, 3 rbis, 2 runs) and Austin Obenour (3 for 4, 3 runs, 2 rbis) also had big numbers.
Senior pitcher Nick Bay earned the victory for Virginia Wesleyan. He went 5.1 innings giving up six hits and four runs. Tufts used six pitchers in the game with starter Kevin Galasso taking the loss.
Nachmanoff's home run was part of a four-run sixth inning for Tufts. Senior Boomer Saraga hit a two-run pinch-hit single as part of a five-run eighth inning for the Jumbos.
Freshman 2B Ryan Daues, junior DH John Moschella, and Shackelford all had two hits for Tufts. Feshman 2B Will Burgess scored three runs and senior 3B Tommy O'Hara had two. Moschella also had two rbis, as did Shackelford.
The Jumbos open New England play on Wednesday at Massachusetts Maritime Academy. The Marlins are next in action on Tuesday for a double-header at Greensboro.
