Superko Earns Third NESCAC Baseball Pitching Honor After Strong First Start

MEDFORD - Senior Tim Superko of the Tufts University baseball team was selected as the New England Small College Athletic Conference (NESCAC) Pitcher of the Week for the third time of his career today.

Superko took a perfect game into the sixth inning of his season-opening start against St. Vincent College on Saturday in Hampton, Virginia. After retiring the first 17 Bearcat batters, Superko gave up a two-out single.

For the game, the Tufts lefty went seven innings and allowed just the one hit with no walks while striking out 12. Though he didn't need it, the Jumbo offense had 23 hits in the game as Tufts won 22-0.

Previously awarded as the conference's Pitcher of the Week on March 16, 2015 and on May 5, 2014, Superko was also the conference's Rookie of the Year in 2014.

Last season for the conference champion Jumbos, Superko was 5-0 with a 3.10 earned run average. His 10.32 strikeouts per nine innings ranked second in NESCAC.

Head coach John Casey's team won its first three games of the 2017 season during their spring break trip on Friday and Saturday.
