Falkson Selected as Baseball's Second Straight NESCAC Player of the Week

MEDFORD - For the second straight week, a member of the Tufts University baseball team has been named the New England Small College Athletic Conference (NESCAC) Player of the Week. Junior 1B Nick Falkson receives the honor today after junior 3B Tommy O'Hara was recognized last week.

Head coach John Casey's Jumbos were 4-0 last week, including a three-game sweep of Bates College in a NESCAC East Division weekend series. During the sweep, Tufts both clinched a spot in the upcoming NESCAC Championship and won their fourth straight NESCAC East pennant (ninth overall).

Falkson continued his outstanding 2017 season during the week. For the Bates series, he was 6 for 9 (.667) with four walks, a double, a home run, three rbis and three runs scored. He also went 1 for 2 with an rbi and a run in a non-league win against Eastern Nazarene College on Monday. For the four games, he was 7 for 11 (.636) with four rbis and four runs.

In Saturday's second game of a double-header against Bates, he capped Tufts' weekend sweep with a two-run, walk-off home run giving Tufts a 6-4 victory. The Bobcats had tied the game at 4-4 with a run in the top of the ninth. In Saturday's opening game, he was hit by a pitch and scored in the third inning and added an rbi double in the sixth as the Jumbos won 9-1. With Tufts trailing 3-2 entering the bottom of the eighth in the first game of the weekend on Friday, Falkson walked and scored as the Jumbos tallied twice and took a 4-3 victory.

Falkson is a Player of the Year candidate in the conference. His 46 hits lead NESCAC and he ranks second with a .400 batting average and 34 rbis. With 27 runs scored he's seventh in the league. He's hit two home runs, helping to accumulate 62 total bases which are third in the conference. The Brandeis University transfer has a .473 on-base percentage for sixth in NESCAC.

The Jumbos have won three NESCAC weekly awards this season. In addition to O'Hara's honor last week, senior Tim Superko was awarded Pitcher of the Week back on March 20.

Tufts is 25-5-1 overall and finished 9-3 in the NESCAC East. The Jumbos are the top seed from the East in the conference championship to be played at Colby College May 12-14.
