JUMBO BASEBALL'S ED BERNSTEIN SELECTED TO D3BASEBALL.COM'S ALL-AMERICAN SECOND TEAM

MEDFORD - Closer Ed Bernstein (Foxborough, MA) of the Tufts University baseball team, the Pitcher of the Year in NESCAC and New England, capped his outstanding senior season today when he was selected as a Second Team All-American by D3Baseball.com.

Bernstein did not allow an earned run during 20 appearances covering 32.2 innings this spring. He allowed just 14 hits and 14 walks for a stellar 0.86 walks+hits/innings pitched ratio while compiling the 0.00 era. He struck out 43 batters (11.85 per nine innings average), allowed just one extra base hit (a double) and compiled a .127 batting average against.

With nine saves, Bernstein ranks 12th nationally among NCAA Division III pitchers. He is one of four New England Division III players named to D3Baseball's top two All-American teams, and the only pitcher.

This is the second straight year that Tufts University's closer has been named a D3Baseball All-American. Chris DeGoti was a First Team pick in 2010.

Coach John Casey's Tufts team won its second consecutive NESCAC title and earned the #1 seed at the NCAA New England Regional. The Jumbos finished 27-9-1.
