All Jumbos Invited to Fan The Fire With Tufts Basketball on December 10
MEDFORD - Fan the Fire: Spirit, Sports,
Service is a brand-new celebration of Jumbo pride and
the dedication to active citizenship we all share here at Tufts. At
the second Fan the Fire event of the year
on Saturday, December 10, students, alumni and
their families are invited to fill the Cousens Gym bleachers as the
men's and women's basketball teams play a double-header.
That afternoon, the Tufts men's team faces local rival MIT at 2 pm and the women's team plays Bridgewater State University at 4 pm. The games are the last sports action on campus for the first semester, so bring your Jumbo spirit and give the teams a true home-court advantage!
In addition to rooting on the basketball teams, Jumbos are encouraged to attend to show their support of Relay For Life, a national fundraiser for the American Cancer Society. ACS uses the funds raised at Relays around the country to support cancer research, patient services and cancer education. Last year Tufts Relay for Life raised $115,000 with the help of over 1,000 Tufts students! To find out more about the 2012 event on April 13-14 and to sign up to participate go to www.tuftsrelay.org.
Join Tufts Relay for Life at Fan The Fire to support the men's and women's basketball teams! The organization will be providing information about Relay and registering participants. They will also be collecting donations on behalf of the 50 teams that have already signed up to participate. There will also be drawings throughout the event for some great prizes including two Kindle Fires, a Tufts hoodie, as well as JP Licks and Flatbread pizza gift cards!
The first Fan The Fire event at a soccer double-header on September 17 was a great success, with one Jumbo fan walking away with Patriots tickets after winning a shoot-out contest. Blow off some steam before final exams and join in on the excitement while supporting a worthy cause on Saturday, December 10!
