Brittany Bowman, Senior, Women's Track and Field
Smashing the school record in the 3,000 meters at the NCAA Championships in Alabama on Friday, Bowman won her first national title with a 16:31.32 time. Her game plan to run at the front of the pack but not in the lead worked out perfectly as she settled into second place for the majority of the race. She waited until 600 meters remained and then kicked past Ithaca's Taryn Cordani to win the race. Cordani is the NCAA Division III meet record-holder in the event set last year. Bowman chopped almost 11 seconds off the previous Tufts indoor 5K record of 16:42.23 set by Cat Beck 11 years ago in 2007. After becoming the first Tufts woman to win an indoor distance title on Friday, Bowman ran in the NCAA 3,000 meters on Saturday and placed fourth (9:39.98).
